Mary Sinker is a child development specialist and museum exhibit developer who works to create learning environments for children and their families. As an exhibit developer, Sinker defines and describes exhibit content, develops exhibit educational goals, objectives and themes, writes exhibit text labels and copy, and is responsible for research. She works closely with the exhibit designer to ensure that the educational content of the visitor experience is designed into every part of the building.Sinker has been writing and speaking about play and its importance to children's learning for more than 20 years. Throughout the development of a new museum, Sinker works to ensure that the educational integrity, developmental appropriateness and potential for fun, play and pleasure of the new museum are maximized. Sinker's understanding of children's development is a strong contribution to her museum work, because she knows how children respond physically, socially and intellectually to the built environment. Her knowledge of family dynamics within museums helps her focus on museum learning as a family and community activity. Her master's degree in Early Childhood Education has made Sinker uniquely qualified to help develop museum exhibits for young children. She has helped museums all over the country to create exciting, play-filled exhibits with strong educational foundations. |
